Thanks!
Aw, if only I had the time to draw a dinosaur today. Most other days would have been fine, but I’m swamped today.
Thanks!

Hey folks!
As a cartoonist, I do a lot of preaching about drawing with shapes in mind. So as an exercise, I’ve decided to task the tumblr community with drawing shapes for me!
Here’s how it works. Draw me a creative shape (don’t put anything in the shape), post it to your tumblr, then send me the link to it via a reply to this entry or in the form of an “ask me anything” thing. It is important to send the link to me somehow because I may not otherwise know if you actually posted it.
I’ll take the shape and use it as inspiration for a character, human or otherwise. I may stick with the shape almost exactly, or I may use it as a primer for a character. It may be the whole character, or just the character’s head, or maybe even the character’s belt buckle. Who knows.
I may not be able to get to all of the shapes provided, but if I do use your shape, I’ll link back to your tumblr somehow. Any character I make with the shape belongs to me, but the picture of the shape you drew belongs to you, and you can use it for whatever you like I guess.
Alright…thanks so much folks! I hope to see some shapes soon!
Best,
~Drew
I am familiar with Bone, but I’m a dirty sinner and have never read it (or any of Smith’s work). Alas, I need to read more comics. Oh the irony.
I often ink my images in Adobe Illustrator CS and color and shade in Photoshop CS. I also sketch a lot in Photoshop using my Wacom Intuos 3 tablet, an invaluable tool.
The clean, crisp lineart is possible thanks to Illustrator, in which I use the pen tool. I haven’t done a Livestream broadcast in a while but you can view my previous streams and in most of them, you can watch me ink and see how it works. http://www.livestream.com/drewgreen You can also hear my sexy sexy voice.
I made little comics about a character I created named “Super Cheese Boy” (don’t ask) when I was around…7 or 8-years old, but sort of stopped being interested in comicking until I turned 19 and just decided that it would be the best way for me to tell the stories I wanted to be telling. For reference, I’m now 22.
As for getting serious about art? I guess it has always been important to me. So I suppose I’ve always been pretty serious about it. ;D
Honestly, my favorite things to draw are my characters. I really enjoy drawing the characters that I pour so much time, thought, and heart into. When I do draw fan art, it’s often of classic Nintendo franchise characters like Mario, Metroid, Zelda, etc. But that is happening less and less now (less time means less fan art, pure sadness).
To answer your second question…I wouldn’t say I love Pokemon, but I definitely like Pokemon! The games are pretty fun, and I like the first two batches of critters a whole lot. The cartoon is rubbish, though (I loved it as a kid, of course).
It varies greatly, really. Some days I only draw for an hour or so, some days I spend doing nothing but drawing for the entire day. Very rarely do I go a day without drawing at least a little bit, though. It’s good to stay sharp!
Good question! I’ve been drawing since I was about the age of 3, so I can’t really say there was an event or thing that got me into drawing other than the fact that I just…started doing it. My biggest influence on my art has been animation (despite being a comicker, I don’t actually read a lot of comics). Some of my favorite cartoons are The Powerpuff Girls, The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, Sym-Bionic Titan, and Samurai Jack. Great art meets great stories and (often) great humor. ;D
Hey, ask me some questions, tumblr folks. Because…why not.
Uh, okay. Thanks! I am flattered. I think.
