When I was studying animation at university I was constantly told to not call my work “cartoons”. I was a filmmaker… an artist… NEVER a cartoonist.
I ended up with a collection of films which gave me a first because they told me how to get one and I obeyed. But now I can’t bring myself to show…
Clients sometimes ask me if the word “cartoonist” is acceptable or insulting. Honestly, it’s preferred. Cartooning is its own complicated, unique art form, and I’m proud to do it. Don’t let anyone tell you that you shouldn’t be proud of the art you’re making!
Quick concept art for a gag that happens late in issue one of “Lotus for Help.” I’ve taken to doing these rough color comps, they’re fun!
This was a commission for the lovely Geoff Munn. It’s the main character, Jake, from his comic, "Kiosk: Life in Neutral." Give it a read!
There appears to have been some suspicious activity on my account last night, and I had an unpleasant time getting my password changed. Everything is fine now, but my blog’s theme was changed while I was away, and that’s really bizarre.
If any of you got any asks/fan mail from me that seemed odd or inappropriate, I’m terribly sorry. I don’t think anything like this happened, but I’d hate to think it would have.
Hope everyone’s tumblr security is peachy. I’d recommend changing your passwords after that Heartbleed hiccup.
It has been a few weeks. Shame on me! I’ve had my nose buried in work, and last week, I drew hardly anything as I was preparing to move back into Atlanta proper (which happened Saturday). The lack of drawing for a week left me surprisingly rusty, so I got back into the groove by doing this concept painting for “Lotus for Help.” I’m not sure if summoning demons causes him physical pain or inconveniences him in some way, but I’ve toyed with the idea.
I hope you like it!
I’m super excited to show this particular piece of art! This is an alternate cover for Magia High: Issue 2 illustrated by my good friend and colleague, Drew Green (drew-green.tumblr.com). He is an AMAZING artist! If you haven’t already, check out his tumblr and give him a follow!
Fav if you’ve read issue 2! Reblog if you’re excited for Issue 3! Both if you are awesome!
You can read Magia High here: www.magiahigh.com or buy the print edition here: etsy.com/shop/IonicComics
So happy with how this one came out!
Commissioned by Tony (blog somewhat NSFW) for his boyfriend, Matt. They’re such a cute couple and they have great style. I loved working on this one!
Commissions are still currently closed. I will announce when they are open again.
This was a holiday commission for a lovely man named Eric. It was a gift for his partner, if I remember correctly!
I am currently closed for commissions, but I hope that you enjoy this one regardless. :)
I really like this one of me taken today! Hate that my beard hides the piercings in photographs, though.
I was hoping to close commissions on February 14th, but I was very busy this past weekend and never managed to post an official closing announcement. So I’m going to leave commissions open for today for anyone that wants to get in last-minute. You can find commission details here.
I will not be accepting new commissions for some time after today. I will work on finishing up current commissions and then working on “Lotus for Help” for a little bit relatively uninterrupted. I will open back up for commissions in time - sooner rather than later if this turns out to be less sustainable than I thought it would be.
So yeah. Get in on it today if you’re interested. Again, you can find the information on pricing and options right here.
