Hey folks!

I haven’t animated in about 7 years, so I think I did a pretty good job with this all things considered.  It was super fun and really zen to work on - great for relieving all of the stress I’m under right now with a bunch of life stuff.  I hope you dig it!

UPDATE:  If the GIF doesn’t animate for some reason, you can see it here and it should work fine:  https://38.media.tumblr.com/f6fd8cd38c2cc1cb745db52a0f7a96db/tumblr_n9fre5pbYy1qgt3neo1_500.gif

Animated in Photoshop CS6.  It miiiiight be playing a little faster than I intended, but I had to fuss with it a lot just to get it to work properly, so it’s no big deal.

"Lotus For Help" (a webcomic, not a cartoon - sadly) debuts at the official site on August 20th.  That website is a tumblr blog, so you can either bookmark it or follow it on tumblr!  How convenient!

Hey folks!

Steven Universe is probably my favorite cartoon on TV (rivaled by Gravity Falls for me, but these are not by any means the only two fantastic cartoons currently airing).  It has such unique themes, great action, catchy tunes, and amazing visuals all wrapped up in these quaint, subtle, quiet, 11-minute episodes, and I can’t recommend it enough.

Not that I have to.  I suspect most of you have watched at least an episode of it.

I like the idea of the Gems in formal wear, so that’s what I did here.  I admit that Pearl probably wouldn’t be quite so “glam rock meets Kate Bush,” but I’m a sucker for heavy eye makeup and dramatic shoulders (see:  every piece of art I’ve ever done, ever).  Amethyst seems like the kinda gal that would mix the edgy with the classy, and Garnet is always and forever, super regal.  Steven, of course, couldn’t be bothered to wear actual formal wear, so I put him in one of those silly tux tees.  :)

I’m preparing a few fan art pieces to sell as prints at Dragon Con - just a few, I much prefer the majority of my table to feature original work.  This is one of them!  I hope you enjoy it, and I hope you’ll consider buying a print at the show (or any I might have left over afterward).

Enjoy!

Hey folks!

I was recently privileged enough to be commissioned by the cast of The Grim Grinning Gays and Friends Podcast, a Disney-themed podcast with an LGBT slant.  They were extraordinarily fun to draw and a delight to work with!  I’m super happy with how these came out, and I hope you like them, too!

Hey folks!

It has been a few weeks.  Shame on me!  I’ve had my nose buried in work, and last week, I drew hardly anything as I was preparing to move back into Atlanta proper (which happened Saturday).  The lack of drawing for a week left me surprisingly rusty, so I got back into the groove by doing this concept painting for “Lotus for Help.”  I’m not sure if summoning demons causes him physical pain or inconveniences him in some way, but I’ve toyed with the idea.

I hope you like it!

Hey folks!

I decided to set aside a few hours to make a Valentine’s Day illustration.  A central conflict in “Lotus for Help” is Ross and Oz’s tumultuous relationship, and I haven’t drawn enough of Oz, so here you go.

I hope that you have a great Valentine’s Day with your loved ones (or with yourself, because there’s no shame in that!).

Hey folks!

I’ve been toiling like crazy with Nicki Noelle’s design for “Lotus for Help.”  Her most recent “approved” design is visible on the left, obviously.

I sat down tonight after work work to fiddle with this and I realized, either her hair has to change or the shoulder pads have to go.  And I’m a little bit married to the pads at this point, since I think they create a really interesting silhouette and they’re weird and I like weird things.  The problem is, her hair creates a lot of horrible tangents with the pads and her lower-lid eyelashes, an issue I didn’t really notice before.

So far, I’m actually really liking the bump/pompadour/updo on the very right.  It will also probably allow her to emote the most effectively by no longer hiding her eyebrows when she’s anything but angry.  I’m going to play with it some more and see if it works well after some more sketches, since I may find it to be just as impractical.  But we’ll see.  As an aside, I’ll probably be rounding out her fingers, too, or just figuring out a better way to draw her hands.  They don’t work very well right now.

Anyway, thought you might like to peek into the further design process of “Lotus for Help.”  I’m doing my best to prevent Nicki from looking or feeling tortured in her design, but she has been given the biggest overhaul of the main cast from her “Ross Boston” days, so I’ve had to pay special attention to getting her right.

Enjoy!
