Hey folks!

It has been a few weeks.  Shame on me!  I’ve had my nose buried in work, and last week, I drew hardly anything as I was preparing to move back into Atlanta proper (which happened Saturday).  The lack of drawing for a week left me surprisingly rusty, so I got back into the groove by doing this concept painting for “Lotus for Help.”  I’m not sure if summoning demons causes him physical pain or inconveniences him in some way, but I’ve toyed with the idea.

I hope you like it!

Hey folks!

I decided to set aside a few hours to make a Valentine’s Day illustration.  A central conflict in “Lotus for Help” is Ross and Oz’s tumultuous relationship, and I haven’t drawn enough of Oz, so here you go.

I hope that you have a great Valentine’s Day with your loved ones (or with yourself, because there’s no shame in that!).

Hey folks!

I’ve been toiling like crazy with Nicki Noelle’s design for “Lotus for Help.”  Her most recent “approved” design is visible on the left, obviously.

I sat down tonight after work work to fiddle with this and I realized, either her hair has to change or the shoulder pads have to go.  And I’m a little bit married to the pads at this point, since I think they create a really interesting silhouette and they’re weird and I like weird things.  The problem is, her hair creates a lot of horrible tangents with the pads and her lower-lid eyelashes, an issue I didn’t really notice before.

So far, I’m actually really liking the bump/pompadour/updo on the very right.  It will also probably allow her to emote the most effectively by no longer hiding her eyebrows when she’s anything but angry.  I’m going to play with it some more and see if it works well after some more sketches, since I may find it to be just as impractical.  But we’ll see.  As an aside, I’ll probably be rounding out her fingers, too, or just figuring out a better way to draw her hands.  They don’t work very well right now.

Anyway, thought you might like to peek into the further design process of “Lotus for Help.”  I’m doing my best to prevent Nicki from looking or feeling tortured in her design, but she has been given the biggest overhaul of the main cast from her “Ross Boston” days, so I’ve had to pay special attention to getting her right.

Enjoy!

Hey folks!

My previous self-portrait (not including the one I did for my fully-abandoned advice column blog) was created in 2012, I think, so it was time for me to make a new one.  I use them in avatars and on business cards, mostly.  Handy thing to have.  I wanted one that really reflects my current project, “Lotus for Help,” and has a similar design philosophy to it overall.

Enjoy!

Hey folks!

This is Occulina, Lotus for Help’s secretary by day, cyclops magical girl by night.  She’s a new character being introduced in “Lotus for Help” (though I have to dash some hopes and say that she is probably only going to be relevant in the first issue of the comic, but she’s a pivotal part of it).

I love drawing Occulina, if only because I love magical girls and I’m glad to have a canon magical girl in “Lotus for Help.”  So much sparkly, pretty, pink things!

Anyway, enjoy!

Hey folks!

Here’s another Lotus for Help background concept!  The comic opens on a decimated candy store.  I feel like I have all of my basic ideas in a row for this background, but I’m unsure about much of the execution.  I imagine it’ll probably come through differently in the actual comic.  We’ll see!

Oh hey, it’s my birthday.  Today, I’m the precious little baby angel birthday princess!  Or at least, that’s what I tell myself.

Enjoy!

Hey folks!

This is a concept for the lotus lobby in my upcoming webcomic, “Lotus for Help.”  It serves much the same purpose as the Bobslist Adventure Team Headquarters did in “Ross Boston.”

It’s not a 100% finalized design, but it’s really close, I think.  I wanted something that looked sort of luxurious and simple, but also a little bit dingy, with this pristine diamond goddess hanging out in the pond in the middle.  The left doorway (our left) goes to Nicki’s lab, and the right doorway leads to Wayne’s wing of the building.  The pond/statue functions as an elevator to the base of the lotus tree, and goes even further down for other purposes that will remain a secret for now.

I’ve never had so much fun working on a background.  I’m learning to enjoy the process.  It’s really quite therapeutic!

Enjoy,

Hey folks!

I’ve been so busy finishing up holiday commissions (among other things) that I haven’t had a single chance this week to draw for myself.  So I threw this together.

I think readers who are familiar with the original “Ross Boston” will be surprised by some of the changes I’ve made to Ross himself for “Lotus for Help.”  He has more direction, more goals, and…well, more expressions!  If I could compile a jpeg of all of the times the poor guy has looked forlorn or scared from the original comic, it’d be a pretty big image.

Oz is Ross’s demon boyfriend.  He’s higher up in this image because he’s usually floating in the air, and it was good for the composition.  :)

Enjoy!
